After watching the opening ceremonies of the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, I became fascinated by the kinetics sculpture behind the Olympic flame cauldron. I thought about trying to make a 3-D printed version of it. However the shapes do not lend themselves to being 3-D printed on a flat bed. There would’ve been as many as 120 individual pieces to be printed and assembled. Instead I decided to just create a CGI rendering and animation.
